Tough Topic

This morning at edge, we talked about a difficult subject...hell. Most of you hear the word hell when people swear. Most people use the word hell pretty lightly in conversation. Hell is anything but light. Remember what we talked about...hell is horribe, hell is eternal, and hell is lonely. Let this morning's talk encourage you to know what you are being saved from if you know Jesus Christ as your Savior. If you haven't made that decision, we need to talk.

Thanks for listening!

8 Ways for Parents to Partner With Edge

How can I partner with the Edge ministry?

KEY: We are not just suggesting that you partner with us, but we are telling you that your child’s spiritual growth depends on it.

Why? Whether you like it or not, you are the number one influence on your child’s life. Therefore we need to be partners in this.

Top 8 Ways Parents can partner with Edge

1. Be a cheerleader for our ministry. That can be one of the best outreach tools out there.

2. If you have a problem, concern, question, or issue with anything we do, come to us first! Please don’t start going to other parents. If we don’t know we can’t help.

3. Ask your child about what they learned after Edge or small group. Dialogue with your child and generate spiritual conversation. Don’t let them off easy.

4. Know the purpose of each event and help us communicate that to your child. Example: The Late Night is not for you, it’s for your unsaved friends, and the purpose is outreach so who are you going to invite to this event?

5. Come to the Edge Parents Night next spring (2009). Watch for details closer to that time.

6. Actively pray for Edge, the staff, and the students.

7. Join our leadership team for the right reasons. Example: Wrong reason: I would like to keep an eye on my kid because this edge thing sounds kind of scary to me. Right reason: wow, this sounds like a great ministry, I love this age group, and I have a heart for ministry.

8. Make Edge (your child’s spiritual life) a priority. Plan ahead so that conflicts do not arise. Example: homework, sports, activities

IMPORTANT LOGISTICS

1. Make sure we have a parent email!
2. Use our website!
3. No paper calendar this year…it’s all on the web!

Well, hello there! I just ran outside and my fingers are so cold, it's hard to type. But for you, I'm going to press on through the struggle, just so you'll have something to read. It's just the kind of person I am. (Kidding.)

So, I'm moving this weekend. Moving is definitely old hat for me at this point because I haven't lived in the same place for more than a year in the past six years. I'm basically a pro. Moving this much makes me really thankful for my parents' house. It's like my home base. Somewhere where I can definitely relax and somewhere that I can go to get some peace. This is a picture of some of the gardens at my parents' house. You can see why it would be a good place to rest.

We live in a really fast-paced world that can make it hard to get away and rest. But do you know that Jesus often went away from the crowds and His friends to be with God? It's true. Jesus was the Son of God, but even He would sometimes get up early to go and pray. I love the picture of Jesus waking up while the world is still asleep and quietly making His way to the garden to talk with His Father. I want to be more like Jesus, and that means being committed to time in prayer and just resting in God's presence. Try to do that this week. I promise it won't be a waste of your time!

Has Been...

I am what you call a "has been" when it comes to playing sports. I used to be pretty good at soccer abd basketball and other sports, but I am just not as good anymore. The last basketball game I played in, I missed a lot of shots, got frustrated, dislocated my finger, and my knees really hurt the next day. I have had a lot of injuries and aches and pains in my life that have brought me to where I am today. I have really bad knees because I had 3 different knee surgeries during college for soccer injuries. Even though I am still pretty young, the aches and pains in my body remind me that my body is not eternal. It also reminded me of a verse:

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day." 2 Corinthians 4:16

Always remember that your body does not last, it won't always look and feel good. What matters most is your soul. What is happening inwardly to you? How are you growing stronger in the Lord?

The Comment of the Week goes to Michael Piccone who gets the prize for the worst score on the Addicting Game of the week. I appreciated his honesty on the really bad score of negative 23. That has to be tough to do. I don't think I could do that if I tried. Way to go Piccone!

A few quotes and a cute picture of the baby. : )

Were you at the Edge Road Show last night? If you weren't, you missed out! The band sounded great (and loud), there was a riveting game of Deal or No Deal, and some heated Stow-Hudson rivalry. Todd talked about how no matter what group you think you should fit into, knowing Christ makes you a child of God. When you know Christ, your identity is in Him...you're a new person!

So, a little over a month ago, I posted some quotes I like. It was risky...I didn't know if you guys would like them. In the end, some of you did and some of you didn't. And after much prayer and consideration (just kidding), I'm going to throw some new quotes at you. Keep your mind open.

There are two days about which nobody should ever worry, and these are yesterday and tomorrow. -Robert J. Burdette

Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much. -Oscar Wilde

It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness. -Charles Spurgeon

True Confessions

Hi! Another week has come and gone. And I'm gonna be honest: some Saturday mornings, I have absolutely no idea what to write about. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot going on in my head. But that doesn't mean you want to hear about it! So, I'm at the computer, nearly paralyzed with the fear of boring you or you thinking I'm dumb or weird.....

I guess I can trace those feelings back to something inside of me that really cares what people think of me. We all have it, this desire for people to say we're okay. Someone gives you their stamp of approval and you can breathe easy for a bit, until you mess up and begin to doubt if you're actually an okay person or you meet someone new and have to start working for their acceptance, too. I see it in so many things I do, even in the smallest things, like what purse I carry. Sometimes, at work, I just really want my boss to tell me I make good drinks. I mean, seriously, does making a good latte make me a better person?

The whole world is looking for something to label themselves with that will make them acceptable to everybody else. It's like we have these underlying, unspoken conversations going on: "Oh, you're an athlete? Then that gives you value." "You're so pretty! I accept you!" "You're dating someone? You must be an okay person."

This is why we need a relationship with Jesus so badly! We are valuable because God made us that way. He made us in His image and He cared so deeply for us that He was willing to die for us. Nothing you can do will earn God's love. He already loves you so much. But, if you don't have a relationship with Him, you can't know that you are already loved and accepted. You don't know the very thing that gives you value...God!

I do know Jesus and He is slowly taking that desire out of me to be okay in the world's eyes. The more I know Jesus, the better I understand God's love for me and can stop trying to be validated. It's a work in progress. : )

Welp, looks like I found something to write about!

Idol Anyone?

I am wondering if there is anyone out there who watches American Idol? Jillian and I are fans. We decided that if anyone is interested, we would have everyone who watch pick each week who they think will be voted off and see if it really happens. But if no one is interested in American Idol than maybe we just won't do it. All right, please reply with a yes or no on Idol. By the way, Sinchaya (or however you spell it) shouldn't even be allowed in the competition. How do you feel?

Road Show Preview

If you guys are wondering what the Edge Road Show is all about, let me explain. Because we are always making middle school students come to the church, we wanted to create a night where we took Edge to a familiar place for many students, their school. So we decided to have Edge at Hudson Middle School on April 20 which is the next Edge. We rented out their auditorium and it will be a lot like what we usually do, but different location. It will be a lot of fun so bring some friends!

The topic that night will be about the question, Where do you fit in at school? We are gonna have quality prizes and I am talking Indians tickets quality, games, food, music, and find out if you are jock, prep, geek, freak, or skater? or maybe something else?

COW

The comment of the week this week is a comment in response to Friday night's Edge which was based on Good Friday...or the power of the death of Jesus Christ! It was so cool to see all of you guys silent and thinking about Christ's death to completely take our sins. Jason Clark put it well and very simple:

Jason clark said...
ya that was a very good edge. And He did it all for us. that just amazes me, cuz he didn't have to.
Sat Apr 07, 12:50:00 PM

Jason, you are right, He did it all for us! What a powerful thing. Jason Clark has won himself comment of the week I believe for the first time. Nice work, Jason! Get your prize at the next Edge which is the road show.

Resurrection Sunday

I like to call it resurrection Sunday because everyone associates Easter with the bunny and eggs and candy. What did you think about today? Was it candy and eggs and bunnies and baskets? Or was it the amazing resurrection of Jesus Christ? He died to take on and remove our sins which was huge, but his resurrection was even bigger because it proved to all of us that He was God! So He is risen and He is alive today! I hope everyone had a great Easter! or should I say, Resurrection Sunday!

Saturday, April 07, 2007

Hi! How's your day been? I've spent a lot of my day with my parents' foster baby, Nicolas. Man, is he cute. All you have to do is feed him and smile at him and he's happy. There's something very simple and beautiful in it. He's just happy to be with the people who love him. No need for the T.V., video games, new clothes, or unnecessary drama to keep him entertained. I could learn a lot from this kid!

On Easter, for my family's entertainment, we're going to put the baby in a bunny suit and have him hold a carrot. Wish you could be there.

I hope that you have a wonderful Easter, even if you don't have a baby in a bunny suit to look at. Don't let yourself get lost in the activity tomorrow. Dwell on the significance of Jesus rising from the dead. He showed us His power over the grave and Satan when he rose and gave us hope! It's really crazy when you realize the world has never been the same since that day.

He is risen!

Were you there?

If you were at Edge tonight, thanks for coming! If you weren't, ask someone about it. I really hope that Jesus Christ's death had an impact on your life. It was so cool to see you guys writing your thanks to Christ on the cross. I have a question for you. Out of the stuff that you heard and saw tonight, what made the biggest impact on you? For me it was how Jesus just willingly died and he didn't put up a fight. It was his mission.

Praise God for a great night! Sleep well.

Thursday, April 05, 2007

Don't Miss It!

Don't miss Edge... but certainly don't miss the reason you do not have school tomorrow, and please don't miss the reason for Easter. For those who follow Christ, this is the most important time of the year. Please come tomorrow night as we will be remembering the death of Christ through some really cool experiences, and I really do not think you will want to miss this. Join us tomorrow night and bring a friend or two. It will be a great night of hanging out, having fun, and experiencing the unbelievable power Christ's death has on YOUR life! Why did Christ have to die? What was so significant about his death? How has it changed the world? This is amazing stuff. Come and see.
