Happy Saturday! Some of you are on your second day of the weekend and some of you are just starting it. Sorry if you didn't get a snow day yesterday!

So, today I was thinking about something that might seem really overdone or cliche to you. But, the truth is, it's totally revolutionary. I'm talking about God's love and what would happen if you (or I) realized just how much He loves you.

If I truly understood how God thinks about me and how He loves me, everything about me would change...

I would struggle less with obeying Him.
I would never worry about my future because I'd know God's plan is the best plan for me.
I wouldn't have to defend myself when someone offends me because I'd be so secure in knowing God.
I'd focus on others because inside I would be so full of God's love.
I wouldn't worry about how I look.
I wouldn't criticize others in an effort to make myself look better.
I wouldn't place value in my accomplishments, but only in what God does through me.

Those are just a few thoughts. Do you realize God's love for you in a way that changes everything about your life? I don't, but I'm working on it.

COW

The comment of the week goes to a member of Team Djibouti. Djibouti fought hard to make a come back from 7th place all the way to 3rd. Now, I know they didn't win, but that was a pretty impressive run. The run may have had to do with the comment of the week getting team Djibouti pumped about week 3 and rallying the troops to the beat of the Djibouti drums. Congrats to Evan Burnham for a very creative and inspiring comment! Here it is...

Djibouti's Drums said...
Well if everyone here just voted for one team we'd all be good right? i mean like no competion or any bad playing... just playing for fun? Well I say we all vote for Djibouti!!! OH YEAH!!! But if you, you know, like got a problem with that then TOUGH! Because Djibouti will win and be even more amazing then you possibly imagined. So do you here that our enemies? do you hear our words? Be afraid for we are worth being feared of! Do you hear the drums? They're getting closer... and closer....tell me you can hear the drums...da da da da... da da da da... da da da da... DA DA DA DA!!! The drums of Djibouti are coming!!! And they have no pity... so give up now... before you humiliate yourself.

Ba-ha-mazing!

It was an amazing run...team Bahamas held a strong lead through all 3 weeks to dominate The 2008 Edge Games and take home the Coveted Edge Games Gold Torch! Well, they won't take it home, but their names will be insribed in the torch for the next year! Congratulations to team Bahamas. The unveiling of the torch with all the names of the students and coaches of Team Bahamas will take place at the next Edge on Friday, February 8th so don't miss it! The bronze and silver torches will be unveiled as well with the team names inscribed (Teams Uruguay and Djibouti).

Don't forget to keep inviting friends back to Edge on February 8th! It's going to be a really important night in telling the 4th story as well as giving everyone a chance to respond to the greatest story on earth! Also, we will show the complete Edge Games Highlight Video that night!
It will be a great time so don't miss it!

Thanks to everyone for coming to the games and making it such a incredibly fun time! You guys are great!

WEEK 3...Anything can happen...

And I mean anything! Seriously, we all know the tale of Edge Games past...ok, well, it was last year. Team Bahamas came back from dead last to take home the torch on week 3. Week 3 is known for the unthinkable happening and don't think for a minute that this year will be any different. I have seen the faces of team Iceland and Djibouti. I have seen the fierceness in their eyes, the sheer determination, the focus. It all comes down to week 3. The points are set so there is no cheating, no biases, just pure competition. It all depends on this week's competition, the t-shirt contest, the talent show, and you bringing your friends! So get ready...i mean, seriously, get ready, for the edge games finale, the final stand, the last night of the games. It's an epic battle for pure Edge Games glory!

Edge's Got Talent

Don't forget this Friday is week 3 of the edge games where anything can happen. I mean anything. This is the week where no one is secure in their standings. This is mostly due to the incredible amount of points that will be given out this Friday. First, we have the talent show which is worth 60,000 points for the team with the 1st place act. Second, we have the T-shirt contest which in itself is worth big points so get creative with your Edge Games shirts. Third, the competition points will be worth more than ever. And finally, the friends points will be totalled up this week for each team so remember keep bringing friends. It's a big deal!

Don't forget that at the end of this week, one team will have their names etched in the Coveted Edge Games Gold Torch! So grab your friends, your face paint, your team spirit, and more friends, and come have a blast with us on the last week of the games.

The Edge Games is all about winning and losing with great attitudes and this week's commenter of the week displayed that in her comment. Even though Djibouti is in second to last, she showed great spirit and optimism which is great stuff! Congrats to Haley Green for winning the Comment of the Week! Here it is...

djibouti is soo amazing, that we're gonna win the edge games! whos cares if we're in second to last place??? that means we're 6th in losing, and Bahamas is last in losing. Yeah, I know, I'm just smart like that =) can't wait for next week!
Sat Jan 19, 01:59:00 PM

By the way, the cookies and brownies are great, but that is all I have gotten and I can't eat all that because I will get fat, so the bribes should probably be a little more creative and original this week. You know what would be great is if your team donated something to a ministry like Urban Vision or Haven of Rest or some kind of service project. If you did that and told me about it, you would definitely get some points.

WEEK 2

The teams get bigger, the points go up, the competition gets more difficult, the games are more advanced...its week 2 of the Edge Games comin' at you tonight! So make some calls and invite some last minute friends, fill up your mom's mini van or perhaps, rent a school bus and bring anyone you can think of. Remember, if the same friends come back this week, you will recieve even more points for your team. I hope all of you are saving your energy for tonight! See you there!

The comment of the week goes to Wes Gray. Wes started coming to Edge for the first time at last year's Edge Games so you can imagine how pumped he was to come this year. I am glad he is still excited about it after the injury he had on Friday. I love how Wes still had a burning desire to know where his team stood after the first week even though he had to leave the night early. For that, you get the COW! Wes, I hope you feel better! Here it is...

cute babies, etc.

Today is an exciting day for you....you get to see a picture of one of the cutest babies on earth! Here he is, on the right. This is my foster brother, who I like to call "Precious."

So, this little baby is totally loved. He's been with my family his whole life and we're basically all obsessed with him. Yesterday he went for his one year check-up at the doctor's office. When it was time to have his finger pricked for blood tests, he was very calm. He watched intently as the doctor held his finger and got ready to draw blood. It never occurred to Precious that he was about to be hurt! So, when she pricked that cute little finger, he was so surprised and upset! All he has ever known is love and he never thought to be afraid.

Even though it was painful at the time, getting his finger pricked was for his ultimate good. In a funny way, that reminds me of the way it is with God. We think a loving God should never let anything hard happen to us, never understanding that it might be better for us in the end.

Sometimes bad things happen and we never understand why. But sometimes we go through something painful and when it's done we see that God brought good from it. Chew on that this weekend!

James 1:2-3
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.

And were off...off to a great start after week 1 of the edge games. It looked like all had a great time! If you were at the edge games tonight and have never been to our blog before, make sure you comment. Let us know if you had a good time tonight at the edge games. It was great to see all of you and way to go with bringing friends! I hope to see you all next week. And remember that next week, the points go up. Sleep well, and dream of tubes and crickets.

Let the games begin...

The Edge Games, that is. I hope all of you are getting ready because it's gonna be a blast and hopefully some of the most fun 3 weeks you've experienced in a long time. Remember, this event is for your friends so bring them and bring them each week. Your team will recieve points for each friend and each week your friend comes. The points will be the same for the whole 3 weeks so that a team doesn't come on the last night, bring a bunch of friends and win. Make sure you find out your team if you are in a small group. If not, you will pick what team you want to be on. If you know for sure what team you want to be on, you can get a head start by wearing their color this Friday when you come. Below are the colors:

Let the games begin...

Aruba

Bahamas

Cambodia

Uruguay--black

Togo

Djibouti

Fiji

The comment of the week this week goes to Mr. Chuckie Campana. Chuckie is already trying to earn some edge games points for his team before the competition begins with his facts about Djibouti. Nice work, Chuckie! I actually spotted Chuckie at the church today as a Djiboutian super hero. It was crazy...he had a cape and mask on and everything. He stormed my office and almost took the edge games torch, but I fought him off. Anyway, great comment, Chuckie! Here it is...

Back in action

Alright, everyone, I know the blog has been very slow over the Holidays, but don't worry, you regulars, we will be firing it back up next week. I hope all of you had a good break and are ready to get back to school and start learning...yea right. Anyway, I hope everyone is getting pumped for The Edge Games and starting to think about the friends (or enemies) you are going to invite. This is the perfect opportunity for your friends to have a blast and hear the amazing news of Christ all at the same time! I can't wait! By the way, if you are in a small group, you have been assigned a team country and color. If your leader has not filled you in yet on that, please ask them to. Alright...have a great weekend!

Happy 2008!

I hope all of you had a safe and happy new year. Each new year, I usually have mixed emotions. I am a little sad because another year is gone and I am getting older, but I also look forward to starting fresh. The new year allows us the chance to start fresh, set goals, look ahead, dream about what we could become, and create new year's resolutions. The freshness of the new year should make us look back on our life, but more importantly, it should make us look ahead. A clean slate for the new year reminds me of the gospel (you probably are thinking, "Everything reminds you of the gospel, Todd."). It reminds me of the gospel because God gave us a fresh start through Christ's death and resurrection. He gave every human being the opportunity to start fresh, sins forgotten, freedom, forgiven...it's a great thing...it's the greatest thing! Think of Christ as you start off your new year.

I look forward to getting Edge back up and running very soon!

Home Sweet...

home·bod·y [hohm-bod-ee] noun. a person who prefers pleasures and activities that center around the home; stay-at-home.

This week has been fantastic, mainly because I've been home so much. The older I get, the more I realize I'm a homebody. I think that might be because I'm usually too busy to be home much, so the thought of home always sounds appealing.

There's another home that I long for and it's my heavenly home. Do you know that if you know Jesus, you have a home with him that is much better than any you'll ever find here? In fact, Peter says that Christians are "strangers" or "foreigners" here on earth. When I look around and see the state of our world, I'm really thankful that this isn't all God has for me.

Remembering that my real home is with Jesus changes the way I live. I want to live in a way that pleases the Lord...after all, I'll be spending eternity with Him!

2 Corinthians 5:6-9
Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.

Playing with gifts...

In my family, after we open the Christmas gifts and the days following Christmas, we just start playing with all of our gifts. However, now I really don't get any toys for Christmas so I don't have a lot to play with. Therefore, I usually try to play with the toys that my neice and nephew get. So what did you get for Christmas? I did get one toy, a GPS navigation system for my car. So I did get to spend some time playing with that. You know, those things are amazing. If you have ever seen one of those, you know that it tells you where you are at all times and can easily get you wherever you want to go by just typing in an address. It can even tell you where the nearest Mexican Restaurant is located. Technology is pretty great. I was thinking about GPS systems which stands for Global Positioning System. Basically, the way they work is there are satilites out there that somehow are positioned to locate you wherever you are and it tells you on the little screen in front of your eyes. It reminds me of the fact that the Bible says there is no where we can go where God isn't. God is like a GPS system. He is everywhere, and He always knows where we are even when we try to hide. The comforting thing is that he is always with us.

My friend Charles...

Today I went with my family to see A Christmas Carol, the play based on the book by Charles Dickens. I've seen it so many times, but today some messages that I believe ol' Charles was trying to send really hit me.

Basically, in the story, Scrooge spends his life in pursuit of money, which he hoards and denies from people who need it. Then, three spirits visit Scrooge to show him what his life has meant, or rather, not meant.

The first spirit shows Scrooge the Christmases already past. He didn't have money then, but he was happy. The second spirit shows Scrooge the Christmases of the present. He sees that some live in luxury, but others suffer and are hungry. This spirit has two children with him named "Ignorance" and "Want" and they are the result of the worlds' greed. The last spirit is the ghost of Christmas to come. He shows that Scrooge will die and people will rejoice that he is gone from their lives.

So, here's what I got from this. First, the world will try to make your life about stuff and what you have. But it will never fill you up. If you spend your life investing in people, caring for them in the name of Jesus, it will make your life worth living.
Then, when your time on earth is done, it will have meant something because it honored God. And the other point is that if you have a lot and don't do something about the poor who are hungry, you are not living the way you are meant to live. Think about all of that this Christmas as you celebrate.

I think that Charles was a pretty smart guy. : )

Merry Christmas!

Hey everyone! I wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas! I also wanted to remind all of you that there is Edge this Sunday at 10, but there will be no Edge the following Sunday, Dec. 30th. Instead, you should go to the main service where people are getting baptized and you will have the opportunity to take communion. It will be a cool experience. That's where I will be, and I might even serve communion to YOU.

Over the holidays, the blog will not always have daily posts, but I will try to post on occasion when I can. I am headed out of town to visit different people in our family. I hope all of you have a great Christmas!

Charlie Brown is right

Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year, and I have to admit something. I think that the reason it started as one of my favorite times of the year was because of having school off, decortating the tree, putting lights up, getting lots of gifts, eating great stuff, sleeping in, and so on. I mean there are so many reasons why Christmas time is great, but as I have grown up, I have realized why Christmas really is such a great occasion. The reason Christmas is so great is because of Jesus Christ coming to the earth to start his mission of saving the world through his death and resurrection. All the other reasons are ok reasons to like Christmas, but they are reasons that don't last. The Christmas gifts will eventually get old and rot, the Christmas cookies will be gone, you will eventually have to go back to school, and get up early again. What else do you have to look forward to? But if we focus on Christ as our reason for celebration, we focus on the thing that lasts forever, that never fades, that never ends. I am thankful for Jesus Christ and the gospel. I am all about the gospel. If you are having trouble figuring out what Christmas is all about, ask Charlie Brown. He's got it.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful...

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, "Snow day." Even though I don't go to school anymore, I hope you get it. I really do. : )

Speaking of hope, I want to share with you something I was thinking about yesterday.

I have a friend, a beautiful friend, who I've known for quite some time. A little after we graduated from college and just a month before her wedding, she found out she had stage four cancer. That's the last stage of cancer before you die.

The past year has been so hard for her and life isn't what she thought it would be. She is in pain a lot and has to fight a lot of fear. My friend has to deal with the real possibility that most of the things she thought she would do in life might not happen. Those things are tougher than I can imagine.

But the really glorious part of the story is that she knows Jesus. She has a relationship with Him and that gives her hope. When she is weak, Jesus gives her the strength to go on. And she can trust that God knows more than she does. But most of all, she can hope for heaven. Everything is going to be alright for my friend because, in the end, there is heaven. When she dies, if it's in two weeks or 50 years, she gets to go be with Jesus. And that's what it's all about.

In our deepest winter, our greatest despair, Jesus is hope.

What is a small group?

Today, I would like to highlight Edge small groups. Small groups are a very important part of what we do in Edge, and a very important part of growing in your relationship with Christ. I am interested in hearing what you guys think of your small group and how it has helped you grow in your faith. What have you learned from small group? Who is your small group leader and how has that person helped you grow? Let us know.

We are planning on launching some new small groups in February after the Edge Games, and we would love to have students who are not in one join up with one. If you come to Edge on Fridays, this is the next level of involvement and it is our desire to see every student at Edge eventually get connected with a small group. A small group is a small group of students with one (or two) great adult leader(s) who hang out together, take a closer look at the Bible, and talk about life together. It's a great time!

The answer to your question about teams is this...if you are in a small group you will be assigned to a team and if you are not in a small group, you will be allowed to pick your team. Hope that clears it up.

Soup, soup, the magical food.

Hello! I have to say, you guys are amazing! So far, we have collected 436 cans of soup! We are so close to the goal of 500 cans and I believe we can even pass that!

And it really makes a difference! We already took the 436 cans downtown and there were three semis there, collecting everything toilet paper to flour to give to families in need. This is the way it's supposed to be....people who have a lot giving to people who don't. : )

Tomorrow - Sunday - is the last day to bring in soup cans. Remember: my office from 9:30-10am and from 11-11:30am.

You are also an amazing group of people because you put together the most incredible elf costumes I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure Nathan Young could have been on the set of The Santa Clause and Olivia Zeller was totally original as a snow elf. I loved it!

See you in the morning!

Elf Contest!

Yes, that is correct, this Friday, December 7th is the first ever elf dress up contest at Edge. I have talked to many of you that have their costumes planned out, and I am looking forward to seeing all of them. We will have a really good prize for the winner that will make it worth dressing up. This Friday is the last Edge of 2007 so don't miss it. We will have everything we usually have except it's Christmas time so we will throw in some Christmas cookies, Christmas movie game, a Chistmas story, and much more. It will be a blast. Don't forget to dress up like an elf either. It will be a lot of fun! See you Friday!

COW

The comment of the week this week is more like the random comment of the week. It goes to Mr. Jordan Wear who randomly commented on the rock in the picture. Check it out.

Hey there! Today at Edge Todd talked about God being unchanging. He can't change. Isn't that cool? I was thinking about times when I'm really thankful that God doesn't change.

When the people around me change and disappoint me, I'm glad God doesn't and never will.

When the world seems uncertain and I don't know what my future holds, I rest knowing God will be the same yesterday, today, and forever.

When I'm in a new place and everything around me is unfamiliar and scary, I like knowing that God is just as He always was.

When I read God's promises in the Bible, I'm thankful that they are still true today and always will be because God won't change His mind about them.

I hope this has you thinking! When is a time that you were thankful for the unchanging nature of our Lord?

the stakes are high.

hey, friends. welcome to the weekend! just thought i should drop you a little note to tell you that the chicken noodle soup competition has been extended a week. so, the last day that you can bring in soup is december 9th.

right now, we have 129 cans, but i think with a group our size we can get at least 500 cans! just think, edge could be part of bringing some relief to hungry families at christmas time! what's better than that?

also, for every person that brings in more than 20 cans, i will have a small prize to give them.

if you brought in soup last week and want to bring in more, i'll just add that to your total. remember, the winner gets a $50 gift card to either starbucks or best buy.

okay, i've given you lots of incentive, but here's a verse to remind you what the real motivation should be!

"Is this not the kind of fasting [the Lord] has chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke?...Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter?...Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I." Isaiah 58:6-7,9
