COW
Hey everyone, once again, we bring you the Comment of the Week brought to you by Edge and the Mirror Mirror series that is going on right now! This week's winner cleared up something about a place called Valley Christian Academy or VCA. Wes Gray wrote that there must be a typo on the SOW post for Erica Clark because he had never heard of VCA so our kind friend and student at VCA, Aaron Corpora, decided to clear things up. You know what, that's what the blog is for...making sure there is no confusion and helping each other out. So Aaron, thanks for helping Wes out on the blog! Congratulations, you are the COW winner for this week! Here is his comment...by the way, Aaron, VCA has more than a few kids!

I proudly brewed Starbucks coffee.
Today I was in a restaurant with my mom, waiting to be seated. Everything was busy and rushed and crowded and everyone working there seemed a little sweaty. I looked to my right and there was a sign that said, "We proudly brew Starbucks coffee." And I thought, "I'm so thankful I don't work at Starbucks anymore." And then I thought of how many times I've thought that exact thing...every time I'm in a Starbucks, a busy restaurant, or when I see someone in a green apron. : )

Freedom!
If anyone has seen the movie Braveheart, you know the famous line shouted by William Wallace before He was killed fighing for his country! "FREEDOM," he shouted as he went to his death. It is the same with Christ. Why do we have freedom in Christ? I was thinking this morning about how people who don't believe in Christ probably think they have freedom to do whatever they want, but really, they are slaves to sin. Anyone who has not been saved by the grace of Jesus Christ, is a slave to himself or herself. They are bound by their sin and really, they have no freedom at all. True freedom comes from following Christ, serving Him, loving others, and serving others! In my life, that is when I feel the most free. I feel the least free when God seems distant or I haven't communicated with Him in a while. Why is that? Well, it's because only true freedom comes from living a life pleasing to Christ because of what He did first for us! Live in freedom because of Christ today!
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

The Great Judge
We think of God in many ways and some of the first things that come to mind are his grace, mercy, love, kindness, and goodness. However, we don't often think of God as the great judge. The truth is that God is full of grace and mercy, but he is also a judge who judges justly or rightly. You and I are saved by faith in Jesus Christ, but that doesn't stop God from being our Judge. The Bible says that at the end of each our lives, we will have to give an answer for the way that we have lived our lives and even if you know Christ as Savior, we will be judged according to the way we lived our lives. That is something that will make you think about the way you are living now. I am thankful that Christ died, but we can't take advantage of His grace and live how we want. We have to remember that at the end of our lives, we will have to give an answer for the way we lived our life, the way we treated people, the things we did, the friends we hung out with, the things we did in the quiet of our homes, and so on. Let's live our lives now with the end in mind!

Wes pointed out to us that there needs to be a SOW from Hudson since this is Hudson Community Chapel. So, Wes, we will try to take your request seriously, but just because our church is in Hudson doesn't mean other people can't come here from different schools! Congrats Wes! Don't forget to come to Edge on Novemeber 2 to claim your prize!

Rush Rush
Hi, you guys! I hope you've enjoyed this unusually warm October day! I'm off to a wedding right now and I'm in a big rush because.....well, because I took so long deciding what to wear. It made me think of what Todd said yesterday about girls trying on ten different outfits before they leave. : )
I hope that today you're reflecting on Edge yesterday. As you look at the world around you, try to decide what the world is telling you. And, then, look at what Jesus would say about that. I'm so glad that we belong to Jesus and that we don't have to get our value from what the world says we should be!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and don't rush through it, k?

Edge Preview
This Friday at Edge we are starting the new series called, Mirror Mirror, which is all about our identity, who we are, what we see when we look in the mirror. This week, we are going to be talking about what the world tells us about who we are and who we should be. Then we will talk about the truth of our identity. Come to Edge Friday to find out just what we are talking about. Don't forget, pizza, games, brand new prizes, the edge band worship, and more! Also, remember that tomorrow, you can invite someone with the card from last time and if they are brand new, first timers, they can redeem the card for a brand new Wired T-shirt! But they must have the card with them! Looking forward to seeing all of you this Friday!

When I lived in Romania, I saw a lot of awful things. I feel like I saw some of the saddest things in the whole world.
When you see people in pain or experience true injustice, you're faced with the task of figuring out how the loving God that you serve fits into all of it. I'm fortunate because long before I went to Romania, I had already wrestled with the question of why God allows evil in the world. But, I did learn something new when I was there. I learned to rest in the truth that God cares about our pain more than anyone else and He has a plan to end it.
If you ever feel like God doesn't care about the hurt you're experiencing, here are a few verses that speak to my soul about that very thing. They allow me to rest.
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:19
"I sought the Lord and he answered me, he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles." Psalm 34:4-6
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God." 2 Corinithians 1:3-4
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Revelation 21:4
So those are just some verses that help me when I can't understand why people suffer or I question if God cares about our pain. When I read God's Word, my troubled spirit finds rest about the most unrestful of things and it can do the same for you!

Go Tribe!
Tonight is game 1 of the American League Championship Series and I don't know about anyone else, but I am pumped for it. It's a good thing there is no edge tonight so everyone can stay home and watch the game. Baseball is such a unique sport because it can be very slow sometimes, but also very exciting at other times. It's not a game with nonstop action, and it actually gets slow sometimes and takes an incredible amount of patience. It takes patience as a batter to look for the right pitch and takes patience as a pitcher to focus on making the right pitch. I think that is why baseball players are so talented. Baseball takes an incredible amount of patience and focus. So does the life of a Christ follower. I am someone who isn't always patient and I am sure there are some reading this that also lack patience. Whenever I want to get better at patience, I think about Jesus Christ and the cross. I think about the patience He had to endure the cross because He knew that it would save the world. When I think of it that way, it motivates me to have patience through everything. The ultimate patience is knowing that one day because of our faith in Christ, we will be in heaven with Christ for eternity. What an amazing thing so BE PATIENT my friends. So when you watch the Indians tonight or any night, remember the patience of the players and work on it yourself.

Tribe Train
As many of you know, I am a HUGE Cleveland sports fan and so of course, I am loving the Indians right now. As many of you don't know, my wife is a Yankees fan so there is a little competition here at the Iannetta home. Needless to say, I won as the tribe knocked off the Yankees in the Division series! It's great stuff! Get on the tribe train because this seems to be their year! Who out there is on the tribe train? Get on it, because I want to bring this town a championship! Go Tribe!
If you are a Yankees fan, sorry...actually, I am not sorry at all. GO TRIBE!

So Kim, thanks for commenting on the worship last night! It was great to sing out with you guys and lift our hands and spin around.

shining bright
Did you have fun at Edge last night? We talked about how we live in a world that is dark because of sin that separates us from God. When we say that the world is dark, that means it is hopeless, sad, and dead. But then Jesus came and called Himself the light of the world (John 8:12)! Jesus said that if you love Him, He will forgive the sins that separate you from God. He'll put His light inside of you, meaning you will have hope in Jesus! This is the hope that this world is not all God has for you and that heaven waits for you.
And then, something wonderful happens. Jesus says we are "the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14) if we know Him. What a beautiful thing that first Jesus says He is the light of the world and then calls us the same thing! That's because when you choose to live a life for Jesus, He puts His light (hope) inside of you.
When I was in college, my mom would always tell me to "be shiny for Jesus." What does it mean to be shiny for Jesus? It means to live in a way that shines who Jesus is. And this brings me to my main point. You can tell yourself over and over again to shine the light of Jesus, but if you don't know what Jesus was about, you're going to have a hard time! When you want to figure out how to be shiny, go back to basics. Spend your time getting to know Jesus better and the shininess will follow.
I suggest asking God to show you who Jesus really is and reading the book of John in the Bible. John will tell you how Jesus was quite extraordinary and rocked the world of the people who knew Him. I have a feeling that if you let Him, He'll rock your world, too, and you'll find yourself super shiny.

Edge this Friday!
Did you know that a light bulb needs to be plugged into the lamp in order to light up? Then why is the above picture lit up without being screwed into the lamp? Interesting? Don't forget about Edge this Friday from 7-9 PM! This is our last night in the WIRED series where we are going to talk about lights and how you can be one if you are plugged into God through Christ. Remember, each of us were Created for a connection with God and now we have to figure out what to do with that connection. Come Friday night to hear more! We will also have some pizza as usual, play some crazy games (possibly a little gross), jam to the Edge band, and give away some great prizes! Don't forget to come and by the way, bring a friend or 5 too! See you there!
Sorry about the AGOW this week. We will continue with it next week.

COW
The comment of the week this week goes to Christian Corpora for a short, but funny comment about our AGOW. I don't know how many of you played the sprouts game, but it was a pretty funny game to play with a man smashing sprouts before they get to his plate. Very interesting.
Christian commented on the man's aggressiveness and for some reason made me laugh, so he will recieve the comment of the week this week. CONGRATS! Get your prize at at Edge this Friday! Here it is...

The Race
"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize." -1 Corinthians 9:24
Today, my wife ran in a half marathon in Akron with about 6,000 other people. It was a great sight to see...all these people running. Many of them were just running to finish the race, but there were several of them who were running to win. Many of the marathoners travel all around the world just to run marathons and try to win. I watched as the guy who won the marathon crossed the finish line and I wondered to myself, what did he have to do to win? What does it take to be a runner who runs in such a way as to win or get the prize? It takes a ton of running, probably years of running, training, stretching, eating right, drinking water, taking care of your body, and more. My wife is training to run a full marathon in a couple of weeks and it has taken her months of training just to run this marathon and finish it, but imagine what it takes to win a marathon. So why does God compare our lives to races so often in the Bible? I think it's because a race is not easy, it takes discipline, it takes focus, it takes endurance. God never promised that the life of a Christian would be easy. How are you "running"?

Losing...
Yesterday afternoon, the soccer team I coach (Hudson Middle School) lost their first game of the season, and we lost to CVCA (please don't rub it in). Losing is difficult. I am a very competitive person so I have always hated losing. Maybe it's because I have 3 older brothers and we were always competing for something every chance we got. I think Jesus doesn't like losing either. Sure, He loves us either way, but Jesus is such a passionate person, and when he walked the earth, He was a rebel. He was so tough, and most of all, He conquered death. Some people might have thought that because He was crucified here on earth that he lost in the end, but there is so much victory in Christ because he over came death...He conquered it for us! What if you went into every game you played knowing that you were going to win. That would give you a SURE HOPE! That is exactly the hope we have in Christ. We have a COMPLETE HOPE! Every day that we wake up, we must know that no matter what happens, if we know Christ, we are going to win in the end. That is comforting and motivating. Let that be the motivation that drives you! The Bible actually calls us MORE THAN CONQUERORS through Christ! Check out Romans 8:37-39 when you get a chance!

COW!
The comment of the week this week goes to none other than Hayley Green! Hayley, thanks for being open and commenting about your testimony and your experience on Friday night at Edge! I get really excited when God works in lives like He did on Friday night. Praise God for changed lives and renewed lives in Christ!
Congrats Hayley, but more importantly, thanks for sharing and praise God for how He is working in your life!
Here it is...
Hayley Green said...
Last night was very emotional for me. I realized that I have been drifting away from God, thinking that since I excepted Him into my heart, I could do what I wanted to do and say what I wanted to say. The message last night was a powerful one, and really made me think again about why I am a Christian. And I now know that I am a Christian beacause Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins because he loves me more than anything. Last night I re-deticated my life to God, and I am ready to take on my life... with Him right by my side.

Changed!
Jesus Christ has changed my life and I hope that He has changed yours too! Last night at Edge, we talked about how our sin broke our relationship with God, but through Jesus Christ's death and ressurrection, we have a way to reconnect with God! Don't forget about the fact that you were made for a relationship with God...you were created for connection with your Creator! Now every human being has an opportunity to reconnect with God through Christ no matter what they have done. What did you think of last night? Were you impacted by the message of Christ for the first time, or maybe just reminded of it. If you know Christ, you have are reconnected with God and you have the hope of being eternally connected with God!

Nice job, Johnsey! I should really start commenting in these if I ever want to win... But that's not the point. The Edge is all about why and how we love God. And Johnsey described that pretty darn well. Therefore, she deserves it entirely. Way to go!

Cleveland Browns
As many of you know, I am a BIG Browns fan, but it is very difficult to be a Browns fan sometimes, especially after last Sunday's game against the Steelers. We got beat down pretty good. But there is still some hope, right. Please tell me there is hope. That was only 1 game and the Steelers are pretty good, right. At least no one expects the Browns to be any good. It's not like they are Michigan or anything. Why is it that Brown's fans are the most loyal of all fans, but have the worst team? All I know is that I will be Brown's fan for life, win or lose. I just hope we come around some time here. A Brown's fan is also a lot like Jesus Christ because He loves us and is completely loyal to us no matter what we do, no matter how bad our season of life is. He is our most loyal fan and we are undeserving kind of like the Browns. So now you know how it feels to be the Browns.

COW
Alright, everyone, our Comment of the Week is back! Be sure to come back every Monday to see who won the COW award. Also, if you want to win the comment of the week, you have to comment on the blog so don't forget.
This week's winner is Miss Johnsey Erdmann! I appreciated Johnsey's response to the message on Friday night. She understood exactly what we talked about and I could tell it had an impact on her life! Congrats Johnsey and thanks for commenting!

Saturday Shmaturday
How was your Saturday? I hope it was restful and not too much of a letdown after such a fantastic Friday Edge. : )
Today I slept in and then this afternoon I slept some more! I love sleeping so much that it's hard to put words to it. Is anybody with me? I think one of the reasons I enjoy sleep so much is that I don't get enough of it normally. And when I go too long without enough sleep, I become stressed and, honestly, a little mean.
But do you know what I need even more than sleep everyday? The Word of God - the Bible. The Bible is to my soul what sleep is to my body. It is completely necessary and keeps me going. If you have a relationship with Jesus, but don't read the Bible, which is God's message to you, you will become spiritually stressed (and maybe a little mean!) That's because God uses the Bible to speak to you and show you what He wants from your life. So get some of it...everyday! Whether it's a Bible study, reading, or good teaching, make it a commitment to get your daily dose of Scripture. You might start to love it as much as I love sleep. And that would be something.

WIRED!
I had a blast tonight hanging out with all of you at Edge! You guys have so much energy. You were really WIRED tonight! But really, I hope you guys got the message tonight on how BIG God really is because of the amazing universe He has created, but also how loving He is to make creatures like you and me. Remember, He created us to have a connection with Him, to have a relationship with Him.
KEY PHRASE: God created EVERYTHING around us, but He created us to be WIRED to Him.
Make sure you come to the next Edge when we talk about how that connection was broken and how that broken connection was fixed. It's actually the most amazing message you will ever hear!
If you learned something new at Edge tonight, let's hear it!

SOW
Ok, so we don't have a Student of the Week this week, but Thursday will normally be the SOW day or Student of the Week day so I wanted you to get used to it. You have to be at Edge on Friday nights in order to get the SOW award. Someone will come and interview you at Edge and it will be posted within the next 2 weeks. Also, the great thing about the SOW is that we will also be praying for that student on the week that they win it! What a great thing!
DON'T FORGET ABOUT EDGE TOMORROW NIGHT FROM 7-9 PM! BE THERE!

Endurance
Are you tired? Are you weary? Do you need encouragement? Read Hebrews 12:1-4. This morning at Edge, we talked about running the race and stripping off the sin that slows us up in our race of life. These things can only be done by looking at the endurance of Jesus Christ on the cross, being put through horrible beatings, being mocked, being put to shame, and eventually dying on the cross to take our place. That, my friends, is endurance! Let's be in awe of Christ today and be encouraged that he went through all of that so we don't have to. Rest in that today! You are loved more than you could possibly imagine!
Have a great Labor Day Weekend!
