Split Night After Thoughts

So, I don't know about the girls time at split night, but the guys had a really good manly chat. I wanted to say that I really appreciated all the guys that night and their maturity to handle all that we talked about (girls...it's top secret). I heard some great things about the girls part as well. If any of you have any thoughts on the night and how it impacted your life, let us know. If you can't really share it on the blog, feel free to write an email to me (todd.iannetta@hudsonchapel.org) or if you are a girl to Jillian Stouffer (jillian.stouffer@hudsonchapel.org). Or you could speak to your small group leader about it too. We are here and we care. I hope you all had a great weekend. Don't forget to comment away on the blog!!!! Thanks for picking it up lately!

Perfection...

When it comes to the weather today, I have described it to my wife as perfect. We just got back from taking a walk together this morning and it was the perfect weather. The kind of weather where it is not too hot and it is not too cold. I love spring. While I know there is no such thing as perfect here on earth, today reminds me of how perfect heaven will be. 1 Corinthians 13:10 says, "but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears." When we are in heaven, all that is imperfect about this world disappears and all that is perfect comes. I love that thought. If today is so perfect, than just think about what heaven will be like. Did I mention that tonight is also the perfect weather to come to Edge and have a rockin' good time? See you all tonight!

I am making everything new!

Those aren't my words, those are the words of Jesus Christ when he is describing what heaven will be like. This morning, we walked through the book of Revelation and most importantly, we talked about the hope of heaven for those who trust Jesus as their Savior. Think about everything being new. There will be nothing in heaven that we have here on earth. It will all be new. Have you ever smelled the smell of a brand new car? I love that smell. If God is making everything new than everything will have that brand new smell. Everything will be new and here is the greatest part, it will never get old. Here on earth, things get old and we always want something better. We have the ipod shuffle, then we want to the ipod nano, and then it gets old, and we want the video, and now we want the touch. You see, we always want the next thing. In heaven, things won't get old. Our desire will be for our Savior, Jesus Christ, and his desire will be for us, and we will have everything we need. So be encouraged...HE IS MAKING EVERYTHING NEW!

Today was one of those rare days where I got to take a nap. Sadly and strangely, my nap today was filled with dreams about something that happened three years ago when I was in my senior year of college. It was April 10, 2005, the day three students that lived a few blocks from me at Miami U died in a terrible house fire. One of them was a pretty blond girl named Julie who was good friends with my housemate and she was supposed to graduate with us that May. It totally rocked my world when those three kids died. I remember routing my runs outside to avoid seeing the house where their lives ended. But, after a while, I would run past on purpose so I could look and pray and remember how fragile life is.

Sometimes it scares me that life is so unpredictable and that I don't know what the next day holds. But, when life is scary and hard and sad, Jesus is most beautiful. He knows everything that your life holds and promises to be everything you need. He "is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18)

Here's what Paul said when he suffered: "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed." (I Cor. 4:8-10) I love those words because they remind me of the hope I have in Jesus...I am never abandoned when I know the Savior of the Universe loves me and has a plan for me!

If you're scared or your spirit is troubled, remember that God can give peace. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Phil. 4:6-7).

Those are the promises that on days like today, when the world seems pretty sad to me, I have to hold on to. I hope you can, too!

What else is there?

As I go through my day each day, there are always things that I look forward to. I like to eat, I like to see friends, I like to talk with people, I will like to hang out with my wife, I like to watch my favorite TV shows, I like playing guitar hero with middle school guys, I like to eat more, and I like to go to sleep at night. There are so many things that we look forward to in our lives. You guys probably look forward to the Fridays, or the weekends, or a sports game, or a party, or when you get your braces off, or when you get into high school, or when you turn 16, and so on... As I go through life, I realize that when it comes down to my life, there is nothing more important in my life than my relationship with Jesus Christ. It is everything, and yet I always let other things get in the way or take priority sometimes. There is no greater thing in life than Jesus. I want to have that mindset more often, ya know. Can you imagine what life would be like with out Jesus Christ? Wow, that is depressing to think about...no hope, no joy, no peace, no love, and nothing to look forward to.
What else is there...besides Christ?

Hello, people! How was it having your parents at Edge last night? I thought it was great and hopefully nothing too humiliating happened to you. : )

This week I've been thinking about how blessed we are to live where we do and to have what we have. Things that we count as burdens may actually incredible blessings that other people in the world could only wish for. Example: Braces. Yes, they're terrible for a time, but most people in the world can't even go to the dentist, much less an orthodontist! Another example: Parents who always want to know what's going on with you. Yes, you find it overbearing, but there are children all over the world who have parents that care more about how to pay for their drug addiction than their kids.

I want to live with a more thankful heart and never take for granted what God has given us. Know what I mean? Here's a little verse I like about rejoicing...

Psalm 68:4 Sing to God, sing praise to his name, extol him who rides on the clouds — his name is the LORD— and rejoice before him.

ONE--THIS FRIDAY

We will be finishing our ONE series at Edge this coming Friday, 7-9 PM. Everyone is back from spring break, the snow is gone, and there should be nothing in the way of getting to Edge this Friday. I can't wait to see all of you there. This Friday is also parent's night, where we are inviting all of your parent's to join us for the night to see what Edge is all about. Sorry if this is embarrassing to you, but it's important that your parents see what goes on here at Edge. It will be a great night with the new Connection's Cafe open for business along with pizza, the edge band, some great games, and the last message of the ONE series. If you missed the last one, you will receive your official ONE Campaign wrist band. I can't wait to see all of you this Friday! Bring some friends, too!

AGOW!

Here's your AGOW for this week!

Jelly Blocks!

The idea is simple: connect all the blocks by color. the only twist is you control all the blocks at once!

enjoy!

GETTING STARTED AT EDGE

First, check out a brief overview of our four main programs listed below. Then, go to the Edge Calendar to find out about specific dates.

1. WEDNESDAY EDGE

Meets on the first three Wednesdays of the month during the school year. We gather in the Fellowship Hall from 7-8:15pm. See calendar for exceptions.

This is the rally point of our ministry and everyone is welcome! If you are unsure where to start your child with Edge, this is it.

DESCRIPTION
During Wednesday night Edge, students hang out, fellowship, eat pizza, play group games, worship with the Edge band, and have experiential teaching. This is a casual atmosphere where students are encouraged to bring friends. While this is a great place to bring visitors, it is also a time when regular attendees are encouraged in their faith and challenged to make key decisions in their life with Christ.

2. SUNDAY EDGE

Meets every Sunday throughout the year from 10-11am in room 9.

This time is geared toward believers in Christ, but visitors are expected and welcome.

DESCRIPTION
Sunday mornings are focused on fellowship, worship, and creative teaching from the Bible. Students socialize and enjoy doughnuts and juice for about fifteen minutes and then come together for worship and teaching. Our desire is to make Sunday Edge a place where students feel comfortable spending time with each other and leave with a challenge from the Word of God that can be practically applied to their lives.

3. SMALL GROUPS

Meet on the first and third Sundays of the month in a home near the church or in a neighboring community. The meeting time varies by group.

Small groups are for students already involved in Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings at Edge.

DESCRIPTION

  • A small group consists of six to ten students of the same grade and gender connected with and lead by one adult leader. They meet twice a month in a home to study God’s Word using approved curriculum, hang out with each other, pray together, and have accountability.
  • Because small groups are not an alternative to Wednesday and Sunday Edge, new small groups will not start until October after we have seen that a student is committed to the ministry as a whole. Students can then decide if they want to be in a small group.
  • Our hope is that the small groups will strengthen the ministry as a whole by learning what it means to serve and lead. We want our committed students to no longer look at Edge as a place just for them, but to see how they can make the ministry better by bringing unsaved friends, welcoming others in, and taking leadership.
  • Our adult ministry leaders are required to fill out an application with references, have a background check, and a personal interview.
Please contact us at edge@hudsonchapel.org with questions.
