One Parent to Another
One Parent to Another
As you know, February is Black History month. It got me thinking about Dr. Martin Luther King’s famous “I have a dream” speech. I read it on the internet the other day and the words stirred me again, as they have many times before. Later that same day, I was thinking about EDGE and the dream God has put in my heart for our students. It is simple and it is big.
I dream of our kids being so on fire for God that the entire church family can’t help but notice and be inspired. I dream of one day seeing hundreds of our students on their faces as a group in prayer. I dream of seeing leaders and teachers rise up out of our youth groups with a passion for God’s Word. I dream of worship so alive and full of the spirit of God that lives are forever changed. I dream of our kids having an eternal impact in the community…being a witness of the love of Jesus wherever they go…drawing in the lost and lonely of their generation. I also dream of parents coming together in support of each other, and committed to prayer. A ministry to help heal relationships between teens and parents, or help them grow even stronger.
That is my dream. That is my prayer. I am believing God for BIG things.
Here is the simple part…meet me for prayer on EDGE nights at 8:15 in the conference room. God has amazing things in store for our kids, and I don’t want to miss a bit of it.
How about you?

COW
All right, this week's Commenter for Comment of the Week has been our most loyal commenter this year and has successfully posted comments literally millions of times (the funny thing is she will probably count how many and correct me). The COW award this week goes to Miss Becky Fuhry who is also known in blog world as who?? I like the insight she gave about Jillian Stouffer's post. Way to go, Becky!
That sounds like one of the lessons in edge- you know, "Loving Yourself?" It came right before "Loving Others." It's a good thing to think about. Like you said, we shouldn't act proud and like we're the best in the world, but not think there's anything wrong with us. If we say that, it's like telling God he made a mistake when he made us.pepsipepsipepsi

What is your HABIT?
I am not talking about dirty HABITS, but I am talking about the HABITS that change your life. We just finished our HABITS series on Sunday mornings, and I want to know if there is one habit that you have tried to start as a result of what we have talked about. Hanging out with God, Accountability, Bible Memorization, Involvement in the church, Tithing, or Studying the Bible. Let us know. I encourage each of you to pick one and then over the next month, try to develop the habit and see what happens...see if there is a change in your life.

Why you are awesome.
Last night a watched a movie with the little girl I was babysitting. It was a super cute movie. You know - best friends, the beach, the blond heartthrob, the occasional mermaid, and a catchy soundtrack. I guess I'm easily entertained. And influenced. I'm thinking of moving to Cali and working in a surf shop.
Anyways. In the movie, this girl has a pair of earrings that speak into her ear. They have adorable squeaky voices that tell her all of the good things about her. They flatter her, but with the truth. You are beautiful inside and out. You are a true friend. You glow from the inside!
I'm looking into getting myself a pair. Okay, not really, but I actually think it is so important to remember what makes us special, what our good points are. While the media and the world is always telling us how we are not good enough...be thinner, be taller, be smarter... God is telling us something different. When I feel down about who I am or feel pressured by society, I want to focus on what God thinks of me! God made you an individual and made you quite lovely. Lovely enough to die for! There are ways that we all need to change and become more like Jesus, but never forget the ways that God made each of you wonderful!
Psalm 139:13-14 "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

Cell Phones anyone?
I just got back from getting a new cell phone because mine did not work anymore. For me, it is such a relief to have a phone again. I got so used to having a phone that when mine did not work, I began to freak out and think that my life was coming to an end. If you are in edge, you are living in a brand new generation, a generation where everyone has a cell phone, and we do not know what to do without it.

little steps make a BIG DIFFERENCE
If you were at Edge tonight, you heard about how little steps in your relationship with Christ can make a big difference. What are little steps you have made? What are the little steps you want to make? Let us know. I hope you guys will take on the challenge of asking God to show you a little step you can take every day to draw closer to Him.

coffee and the people who love it.
A lot of stores were closed yesterday morning since there was a horrible blizzard happening, but not my Starbucks. We opened at 5:30 a.m. when the rest of the world was cozy in bed, happy to have an excuse not to go outside.
I thought no one would come in for coffee. I thought we were crazy for being open. Why would anyone risk their life for a cup of coffee?
Oh, but they did. They did and they did it well. Not only did the regular customers show up, they came bearing Valentine's Day gifts! I pretended to be happy to see them, but inside I was wondering just how far a caffeine addiction will push someone.
One of our regular customers said he shoveled a quarter mile of driveway piled with feet of snow just to get out for his venti vanilla cappuccino. A twisted part of me was impressed.
What would you shovel a quarter mile of two feet high snow for?

What did you do on your snow day?
Snow days are great days! I remember when I was a wee lad and the few times it snowed like crazy (just like today) and there was so much snow that you could make tunnels and forts in the snow, and then have massive snowball fights. We usually spent most of the time making the snow and then by the time we were done, we just went inside and drank hot chocolate! That was a glorious time for me. How many of you made snow forts, snowmen, or tunnels in the snow today? I would love to hear about them if you did. There is enough snow out there to make some pretty sweet snow forts. It was always horrible when the weather got a little warmer and the snow fort melted. You always know the fort or snowman or whatever you make is not going to last long, but you still put the time into making it really good. It's good to know that our faith will not melt away like a snow fort. Our faith will last forever. It makes me think of a verse that is very comforting for those of us who know Jesus Christ as our Savior.

Ski Splash Weekend...get ready
Hey everyone, Ski Splash Weekend is almost hear so get ready. It's gonna be pretty cold so make sure you dress warm this weekend if you are going...I mean layers and layers...i mean hat, gloves, scarf, mittens, snow pants, parka, and more! For those of you who are going, I wanted to give you a few tips for the trip so you know what is going on and you are really prepared!
1. Have all the stuff you need for skiing or snowboarding with you when you get on the bus or under bus #1, and pack all of the other stuff (sleeping bag, pillow, overnight bag) you do not need until that night seperately to be put under bus #2.
2. Be sure to take really good care of your belongings such as ipods and cell phones. Don't lose them if you bring them, and my recommendation is that you don't even bring them.
3. All movies seen on the bus will be no more than PG so don't bring it if it is not.
4. Make sure you are prepared to have a ton of fun!

Comment of the Week
This week's COW comes from the one and only Emma Lee Bock! First of all, Emma, Jillian is the one who posted the extreme cuteness post, but I liked your response. You gave a great example of serving God in the little things. Way to go!
I would love for all of you to comment on the things that God is teaching you if you can.
Here it is.
Emma Lee Bock said...
Hey Todd! I agree! Babies are adorable, and it IS amazing how their lungs are so small and that they can make so much noise! lolAnd also, about how serving God is about all the little things, but some big things? Well, I did some things to make God happy this morning. I helped my mom with weekly chores, and offered to help out around the house after I was done. I felt really good after I did it, and my mom sad she was proud of me. Sometimes, i think, it's all about the little things that can please God more than the big things. When you show that you care about others and take time to help them, like God did, I think he's more than proud, he's ecstatic. But it might just be me. lol ^-^

Extreme Cuteness
Happy Saturday! Do you guys love Saturday mornings? My friend Karrin has a "Happy Saturday" dance that she does because she loves them so much. Maybe it's a little extreme, but I can appreciate that she finds joy in the little things.
Speaking of little things...do you know what else I love? Babies! My parents are foster parents now, so they're taking care of someone else's child until that person can have their child back. So, two weeks ago, a little baby boy came to live at their house. As I like to say, he is extreme cuteness. He's only a month old and so little! I instantly loved him! (That's him in the picture.)
Having this new little guy around really has me thinking. First of all, I can't believe how fast his whole face can turn completely red. Beet red. His whole face. It's amazing. Two, how can one little person be so cute? And three, serving God can be hard. My parents are serving God by taking care of this baby, but it's not easy. My mom never gets any sleep and they don't get to go out and have fun very often. But, you know, it's totally worth it! In the end, a baby will be loved and nurtured and God is pleased. There is real joy in that, even though it didn't come easily. I hope that encourages you the next time God is calling you to serve Him.
